Brian Friel’s masterpiece and multi- award winning play, Dancing At Lughnasa, is considered by many to be one of our finest examples of Irish Theater. Perhaps it is because it so perfectly embodies the essence of the Irish soul and, at the same time, in a truly powerful way, reveals to us a universal hope in the future. It is often referred to as the greatest memory play since The Glass Menagerie. We travel with Michael as his memory takes us back to 1936 County Donegal where his mother and her four sisters struggle to balance a life of heartache and loss with moments of joy and hope. It is a play about women, strong, independent women yet, Like all great theater, Dancing At Lughnasa carries all of us aloft with music and dance and characters to a universal place where longings and loss are buoyed by simple joys and hope for the future.
